GTFOutdoors
Welcome to GTFOutdoors! I'm glad you stopped in to check it out! Who? I'm just a guy who has spent his whole life looking for adventure. Born in western Arkansas, grew up in Texas and now live in eastern Oklahoma where my family has been for many generations. I’ve been blessed with 4 amazing children, the oldest serves his country, the second serves his local community as a fireman, the third, my daughter is attending school and working in the legal sector and my 6 year old doesn’t care about much if it doesn’t involve playing with his toy cars, riding on his Poppy’s sXs or goin fishin. I’ve also somehow snagged a trophy wife I’m pretty proud of(hopefully she won’t read this, I don’t need her getting a big head about the whole thing). I’ve spent my whole life as a blue collar guy including time as a Working Cowboy in Texas, Driller in the oilfields in many places, manufacturing and a couple other things in there. Also I’ve spent countless hours as a strength coach for my kids, many of their teammates and a select few college and professional athletes and friends. This has always been a labor of love rather than a source of income. Currently though I’m the primary full-time life Sherpa for our aforementioned 6 year old son who is disabled. My whole life aside from raising a family or working has always focused on anything outdoors or various athletic pursuits with my personal favorite being when I can combine the two. Outdoor wise, hunting was my first love and I have no explanation for it. When was a young kid Dad took clients bird hunting but it wasn’t a big deal for us. I somehow became completely engrossed in it and by the time I was 11 or so, he and I we’re hunting whitetail anytime the opportunity arose with my 3 younger brothers weaving right into that same canvas with various degrees of interest. I suppose it may be my fault that Dad’s obsessed now, sorry not sorry. I also trap, fish(badly), hike, camp, paddle, swim, serve as my younger brothers guide when he's in town hunting arrowheads, etc. I love cooking, vintage guns(particularly S&W double actions), any sort of DIY project that pertains to outdoor gear, history, the list goes on. My goals here? I’ve been very fortunate over the years to have some wonderful times in these pursuits both alone and with friends and family and look forward to more. I’d like to share some of that with hopes that someone out there will take it, make there own and use it to enrich their life and those around them. Past that, gaining knowledge and sharing it with others is high on the list. I feel it’s important to mention also that I’m a huge believer in value and simplicity. I like “gucci” gear as much as anyone but am just as happy to put something together myself out of spare parts if it suits me better. Granny was a child of the depression, she’s still alive and if she finds out I’m out here wasting money we’ll all be in it deep. If you appreciate a good laugh, a little history, the general pursuit of adventure and the garage projects of an old Cowboy/Roughneck/Cheapskate Dad, then by God you’ve come to the right place!
